Euroluce 2027, the 32nd edition of the biennial light exhibition, will run from 13 to 18 April at Fiera Milano Rho in the Milan Design Week complex. Organized by Federlegno Arredo Eventi SPA, the show will run in tandem with the Salone del Mobile and introduce a new International Lighting Forum that will explore the intersections of light, well‑being and artificial intelligence.

The forum’s agenda is driven by a growing industry awareness that lighting can play a pivotal role in extending the healthy portion of life. Recent ISTAT data show Italy’s life expectancy at birth has risen above 83 years, yet the years lived in good health fall between 57 and 60. The World Health Organization reports a global healthy life expectancy of roughly 63 years against a total life expectancy of about 74, a gap that exceeds 12 years in many high‑income countries. These statistics underline the need for design solutions that push the boundary between mere illumination and health‑supporting environments.

Designers are moving away from static, one‑size‑fits‑all fixtures toward human‑centred systems that adapt to daily rhythms. In 2025, Vibia launched circadian‑synchronised collections—Offset, Circle and Line—powered by Chromatica technology. Grau presented a “Sunset Dimming” fixture that fades like a natural sunset, while Artemide’s Dusk by BIG reproduces the spectrum of daylight. Together, these products illustrate a trend toward lighting that accompanies waking, working and evening activities rather than remaining constant.

The shift is not limited to homes. Hotels, spas and office spaces increasingly treat lighting as an integral part of the experience. Cariboni Group showcased Levante 2.0, a blue‑free street‑lighting system with adjustable colour temperature and IoT integration, and LedsC4 demonstrated digital management platforms that use advanced sensors for predictive maintenance and customisable light scenes. These examples suggest that lighting is evolving into a service that adapts to the occupants of any space.

A next step in this evolution is the use of artificial intelligence to create lighting that learns from users’ everyday actions. By analysing behaviour and rituals, AI‑enabled systems can generate personalised lighting curves that align with individual schedules and habits. This approach is already being explored in “longevity residences” such as The Estate and Velvaere, where circadian lighting coexists with other intelligent systems to support self‑care without medicalising the home.

The Global Wellness Summit has identified longevity‑focused living as a key trend for 2026, highlighting the importance of environments that actively support health. However, several questions remain. The forum will address the boundary between genuine learning and sophisticated automation, data ownership and privacy concerns, the affordability of advanced lighting solutions, and the potential for such technology to be deployed in collective spaces like offices and hospitals.

In summary, Euroluce 2027 will showcase a range of products and concepts that position lighting as a silent ally of longevity.
