In a move that signals a new era for life‑sciences communications, Assembled Intelligence has appointed Chuck Hemann as chief business and AI officer, effective immediately. The decision formalises the firm’s AI capability and tells its clients that AI‑enabled expert services are now part of the full suite of communications and commercialization.

Hemann will steer a dedicated AI practice of roughly 20 staff, setting the strategic vision for building, deploying and scaling AI across the platform’s divisions. The team includes EVP of innovation and AI Harry Sharman, SVP and group director of integration and innovation Alyssa Marone, and AI engineering leader Jake Pistotnik. He reports directly to CEO Mark Lydiatt.

The appointment follows years of experimentation driven by client demand. Over the past year, advances in the technology prompted the platform to elevate the practice to a central part of its service offering. Embedded AI leads from brand strategy, client service, project management, design, scientific strategy and writing are now weaving automation into day‑to‑day workflows.

“There’s so much conversation about the AI application for advertising and marketing and comms, but there is so much application for medical communications for scientific strategy, value communications,” Hemann said. He added that the breadth of AI use in medical communications makes his job exciting.

Unlike other agencies, Assembled Intelligence’s AI practice model keeps technology and expert‑led individuals together. The core group builds new AI‑driven capabilities, automates workflows where appropriate, and integrates third‑party AI technology, embedding AI across the organization rather than isolating it.

A key capability now in active use is a proprietary disease‑area intelligence engine that synthesises published evidence, real‑world data, behavioural science and competitive landscape into decision‑ready intelligence for teams in clinical development, medical affairs, market access and commercial strategy. In an email, Lydiatt wrote, “Our ‘revolution’ focus allows us to connect business intelligence, healthcare data and behavioural science in ways that were never previously achievable, unlocking exciting new possibilities for our clients.” He also noted, “The future won’t belong to companies with the most AI. It will belong to those that combine AI with the deepest expertise.”

Hemann joined Assembled Intelligence in 2025 as chief integration officer ahead of the platform’s launch and became chief business officer in December. Prior to that, he served as chief integration officer at Highwire and president of integrated activation at Real Chemistry.

Backed by Amulet Capital Partners, which made a growth investment in 2023, Assembled Intelligence has expanded through acquisitions such as Awaken Interactive and BoldScience. The platform, launched by healthcare marketing firm Minds + Assembly, includes services from BoldScience, Stratevi and HashtagHealth.

By formalising the AI practice, Assembled Intelligence positions itself to meet growing demand from life‑sciences clients for AI‑driven insights while maintaining deep industry expertise. The company continues to develop AI capabilities, including the disease‑area intelligence engine, and aims to deliver faster, higher‑quality services. How the AI practice will scale across the platform’s expanding portfolio and integrate third‑party AI technologies remains to be seen.
